plum is an interdisciplinary community arts space in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. plum is in its first pilot year of taking over the legendary Lump, building on its 30-year legacy as a vital artist-run community hub in Raleigh. Our team brings together Madeleine Lyon's experience in textiles, sustainability and community education through Mend Mother, Mary Beth Eisenstadt's experience as a multimedia artist with a background in graphic design, marketing, brand management and hospitality, and Marty Rogers' experience as a programs coordinator and their familiarity with Lump as gallery assistant, past volunteer, and winter artist in residence.

plum, at its core, is an independent art space that fosters an environment of curiosity, creativity, and connection. plum aims to create a reliable presence in Raleigh’s arts ecosystem through artist residencies, workshops, cultural events, and varied daily community engagement.

We aim to address barriers that prevent DIY, emerging, and marginalized artists from creating and exhibiting their work. The hope is that plum will work to provide scaffolding for next-generation + student artists to have opportunities locally to grow their practice. We see this as an opportunity to facilitate community nourishment, bringing art made by HUMANS to the forefront. 

Half the building will be a flexible event space, and the other half will be Mend Mother’s brick-and-mortar location. The building’s open hours will expand, and there will be many opportunities for engaging with multi-media arts. Expect to see workshops, residencies, exhibitions, artist talks, live shows (music, readings, performances), craft nights, and so much more!
